Meet Mr. DUI

When you are arrested for DUI in the San Diego area, there’s one attorney you need to call: Eugene Ellis. With 33 years of legal experience, it’s no surprise that he is known as Mr. DUI in Southern California.

By dedicating his practice to focus solely on DUI defense, Mr. Ellis is able to stay on top of the ever-changing DUI laws and understands the methods to use to build a solid defense for his clients. DUI criminal investigations can be extremely complex because they involve a combination of politics, science and law, which is why Mr. Ellis has spent the last 20 years learning DUI law inside and out.

Prior to starting his own practice, Mr. Ellis graduated from the Western State University College of Law in 1975. Then in the winter of 1976, Mr. Ellis became one of the 37% of law students to pass the California Bar Exam on their first attempt. He then went on to take post-graduate law courses at the University of Southern California, the University of San Diego and Hastings University School of Law.

In 1980, Mr. Ellis began the San Diego Ticket Clinic where he fought traffic violations and DUI cases. It was during this time that he had the honor of working with Bill Fielden, a famous DUI and federal criminal attorney. After building a successful practice, Mr. Ellis decided to limit his practice to DUI cases in 1986.

In this same year, a bright-eyed, bushy-tailed, aggressive young attorney by the name of Mitchell Mehdy began working with Mr. Ellis with a dream of focusing on an area of specialization. It seemed fitting to have Mr. Mehdy lead the San Diego Traffic Clinic and DMV part of Mr. Ellis’ practice. Mr. Mehdy soon became licensed as Mr. Ticket while Eugene Ellis took over the reigns as Mr. DUI, with each of them limiting their practice to their respective areas.
